GAINESVILLE, Ga. — East Forsyth got a solid outing from Trey Farr and some timely hitting from the offense in taking an 8-1, Region 8-4A North win over Chestatee on Monday at home.
Farr went 6 2/3 innings scattering four hits and allowing just one run (none earned) while striking out eight to get the win, holding down a War Eagles offense that came in averaging over eight runs/game on the season.
After Chestatee (10-7, 3-1 Region 8-4A) tied the game when Colton Wilbanks scored on an error in the top of the second, the Broncos (12-5, 2-2 Region 8-4A) broke the tie with a four-run second. Bradlee Hamby tripled, JD Sexton and Zach Aschoff each singled, all driving in runs, and they capped the big scoring a run on a Chestatee error for a 5-1 lead.
East Forsyth put the game away with a three-run sixth
Brock Moody took the loss for Chestatee giving up five runs on just three hits and a walk in two innings.
The two teams will resume their series at the Lynn Cottrell Complex at Chestatee on Wednesday.
CHEROKEE BLUFF 17,
EAST HALL 0 (6 inn)
The Class 4A second-ranked Bears scored six runs in each of the second and fourth innings to spark a blowout win at East Hall Park.
Bluff (13-2, 1-0 Region 8-4A North) got a two-run triple from Tanaka Mukono. Ty Corbin, Caleb Miele, and Jacob Vokal also had two RBI for the Bears. In all, nine different Bears recorded an RBI in the win in six innings.
Vokal, Wyatt Hayes, and Logan Robinson combined on a two-hitter and struck out 10 on the mound for Bluff..
The two teams will play again on Wednesday at Cherokee Bluff in the second game of their three-game series.
HABERSHAM CENTRAL 7,
JACKSON 1
The Class 6A seventh-ranked Raiders stayed perfect in Region 8-6A with a win at home on Monday.
Habersham Central (12-2, 5-0 Region 8-6A) used a five-run third inning to take the lead and that would be enough for Kade Nicholson.
Nicholson went the distance allowing just one run on eight hits in a complete-game effort.
The Panthers only run came in the fourth on a solo home run from Colin Price.
The two teams will meet again on Wednesday in Hoschton.
GAINESVILLE 9,
LANIER 0
The Red Elephants moved into fourth place in Region 8-6A with an impressive road win in Sugar hill on Monday.
Cooper Reid was outstanding on the hill for Gainesville (6-8, 3-4 Region 8-6A) scattered four hits and walked two while striking out 10 in a complete-game effort.
Philip Williams had a double and a single, Cohen Miller had a pair of singles, and both drove in three runs to lead the Gainesville offense. They broke a scoreless tie with a run in the second and added two in the third. The Red Elephants pushed the lead to 6-0 in the fifth and put it away with three more in the seventh.
Jake Renuart took the loss for Lanier (6-11, 2-4 Region 8-6A) giving up six runs on six hits in five innings, though he did fan eight Gainesville batters.
Gainesville will play host to Lanier on Wednesday at Ivey-Watson Field.
NORTH FORSYTH 12,
SHILOH 2 (5 inn)
Brayden Weems and Thomas Aucoin combined for no-hitter in leading the Raiders to their third straight win in Region 8-6A play.
North Forsyth jumped on the Generals early and often, scoring four runs in the first and eight in the second inning en route to the win in five innings.
Ty Womack had two hits and three RBI and Jake Prince had a triple and single for two RBI to pace North Forsyth (10-6, 4-1 Region 8-6A). Ellis Alldredge, Ozzie Patterson and Brady Holbrook also drove in runs in the two big innings.
Weems earned the win for North Forsyth, allowing one run and striking out seven in four innings. Thomas Aucoin allowed a run and walked two in one inning but neither surrendered a hit.
North Forsyth will travel to Shiloh on Wednesday.
BUFORD 9,
MILL CREEK 1
Georgia-commit Nick Taylor struck out 13 in 6 2/3 innings to lead the Wolves to an impressive road win the first of a three-game series for first place in Region 8-7A.
The two teams came in tied for the region lead but Buford (10-4, 4-0 Region 8-7A) wasted little time in taking control. They plated four runs in the first inning on a two-run single from Ethan Murray, a fielder’s choice, and a RBI single from Blake Russell.
Buford scored a run in the second, a run in the fourth, and put the game out of reach with three more in the seventh on a wild pitch and a two-run error by the Hawks (8-5, 3-1 Region 8-7A).
Taylor surrendered just two hits and walked just one in the win.
The two teams’ will resume their series on Wednesday at Gerald McQuaig Field.
FLOWERY BRANCH 4,
EASTSIDE 3
At the Hog Mountain Sports Complex, Jackson Freeman drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the sixth inning for the go-ahead run and then London Moshiri closed out the win in the seventh for the Falcons.
Moshiri pitched two scoreless innings in relief, surrendering two hits and no runs while fanning two. Riley Castaneda started for the Falcons, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits in five innings, striking out four.
The two teams nearly matched each other throughout. Eastside (7-9, 2-3 Region 8-5A) led 1-0 after the opening frame but Branch (7-7, 4-1 Region 8-5A) answered with a run off an Eagles error.
Eastside reclaimed the lead 3-1 in the fourth on a fielder’s choice but Branch answered back with a pair of runs in the fifth on a RBI single from David Ojeda, and a RBI double from Kyle Adamec.
The win for the Falcons was their second straight and kept pace with Jefferson for second place in the region. They have four of their last five overall.
Flowery Branch will travel to Eastside on Wednesday for the second game of the two-game series.
JEFFERSON 10,
HERITAGE-CONYERS 0
It was an early pitcher’s duel until the Dragons used a five-run fourth to break things open for a Region 8-5A win on the road on Monday.
In the big inning, Chris Law doubled, scoring one run, and after a heritage error led to a run, Ryan Reed doubled, scoring two runs, and Rett Hemphill followed with an RBI double as well.
Austin Stegner allowed four hits and no runs over five innings, striking out five and walking one to win for the Dragons (8-8, 4-1 Region 8-5A). Steven Tavares threw two shutout innings in relief for Jefferson to close out the game.
Caden Pieplow and Reed both drove in two runs for Jefferson.
The two teams will head back to Jefferson on Wednesday to close out their two game series.
