The Hall County Board of Elections and Registration has reported that 200 voters who did not live in the city of Oakwood cast ballots in a city council special election that was held on March 12.
That election saw Rhonda Wood defeat Volley Collins with just over 58 percent of the vote for the Post 4 seat that was left vacant by the passing of Wood's husband, Dwight Wood, in September of 2023.
A document from the county elections board that was recently amended on March 22 showed that while 319 residents of the city cast ballots in the race, 519 ballots were tallied in total. Also, 22 voters who should have been able to vote for the city council race did not have the item included on their ballot.
Wood won by a margin of 88 votes. No information was listed indicating how many of the erroneous votes went for either candidate.
A statement included at the end of the document said:
"The Elections Director has investigated this matter and has determined that these ballot discrepancies were not the result of actions of the Hall County Board of Elections and Registrations staff."
Hall County Elections Director Lori Wurtz has not responded to a request for comment on the matter as of Thursday morning.
Robert Sinners, spokesperson with the Georgia Secretary of State's Office, said they did not have an open file on this incident.
Oakwood City Manager B.R. White said the city has been provided the same information from the county listed above. He said the city does not wish to comment on the matter.
It's unclear what caused the issue.
