Boys soccer: No. 1 Johnson holds off No. 7 East Hall

By AccessWDUN Staff

RABBITTOWN, Ga. — Class 4A No. 1 Johnson completed another perfect region record on Friday, beating East Hall 3-1 at East Hall Stadium.

The victory gave the Knights (11-1-1, 10-0 Region 8-4A) their 63rd consecutive region win, going back to 2015, and their eight straight undefeated region schedule.

Johnson jumped out to a quick lead with a goal from Edgar Vasquez off a cross from Junior Castillo in the first 8 minutes. Ten minutes later, Andres Galicia scored from the top of the box to make it 2-0.

It stayed that way until the Vikings (9-5, 4-5 Region 8-4A) finally got on the board with just seven minutes in the half on a goal from Orlin Yanes to pull within 2-1.

But they could get no closer and Johnson put the game away when Vazquez scored his second goal of the match on a free kick with less than 20 minutes left.

Several key series in multiple regions across northeast Georgia will conclude on Friday.
