The latest numbers for unemployment have been released from the Georgia Department of Labor and Gainesville comes in at 2.3 percent in the month of February.
Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said on Thursday that the number is unchanged from the previous month.
At this time one year ago, the rate was 2.6 percent.
“Georgia continues to thrive, fueled by a powerhouse workforce and savvy economic investments,” said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “For the past 48 months and counting, Georgia has continued to outshine the nation with low unemployment and high-quality jobs. Our regional unemployment numbers are a testament to this remarkable track record of success and Georgia’s ability to drive economic opportunity across virtually every corner of the state.”
The labor force in Gainesville increased by 880 and ended the month with an all-time high of 114,033.
When compared to February of 2023 that number went up by 4,716.
Gainesville also finished the month with 111,371 employed residents, an all-time high.
That number increased by 836 throughout the month and rose by 4,897 when compared to the same time a year ago.
Gainesville ended February with 109,200 jobs.
That number increased by 500 from January to February and rose by 5,200 when compared to this time last year.
Initial unemployment claims increased by 14 (4 percent) in Gainesville and claims were up by 84 (32 percent) when comparing this year to last year.
