Eight Hall County Students chosen as Georgia Governor’s Honors Program finalists

Eight Hall County students have been named as finalists and two were chosen as alternates for the Georgia Governor’s Honors Program for summer 2024. 

GHP is a residential summer program for rising high school  juniors and seniors that demonstrate advanced skills in a specific area of study. Administered by the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement, the program will be hosted on the campus of Georgia Southern University. 

The program aims to offer its students with instruction beyond what is seen in a typical classroom and inspire them to become critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders. 

Over 4,200 students from across the state applied to the program. About 1500 students auditioned and interviewed in February, and 700 students were chosen to participate. 

GHP will run from June 16 until July 13. During that time, students will spend their mornings in classes focused on their area of nomination, then will spend their afternoon’s exploring a topic outside of their concentrated area of study. Evenings will have seminars, performances, activities, and performances. 

The Hall County students named as finalists, their nomination area and schools are as follows: 

  • Diana Bonilla Bonilla,Communicative Arts, West Hall High School

  • Maximo Munoz, Engineering- Mechanical/Electrical, Flowery Branch High School 

  • Aiden Voyles, Mathematics- North Hall High School 

  • Dallin Peoples, Music- Brass:Trombone, Flowery Branch High School 

  • Connor Mcclenathen, Music- Voice:Tenor, Chestatee High School 

  • Daniel Cavazos, Science- Biology/Environmental Science, North Hall High School

  • Paula Mayo,Gonzales- Visual Arts, Johnson High School 

  • Reymi Alvarado, World Languages- Spanish, Flowery Branch High School

The Hall County students named as alternates, their nomination area and schools are as follows: 

  • Blanca Garibaldi, Communicative Arts, Cherokee Bluff High School 

  •  Levi Selman, Music- Jazz:Drums, Cherokee Bluff High School
