A Juvenile Court judge serving Hall and Dawson counties has submitted his resignation effective at the end of May.

A release Monday afternoon from the Northeastern Judicial Circuit announced that Judge Matthew G. Leipold submitted his resignation last week, with anticipated departure day of May 31.

Leipold was appointed to the bench in March 2022. Court officials said, in accordance with Georgia law, the Superior Court judges of the Northeastern Circuit will appoint a new judge to the bench for a 4-year term to begin August 1.

"Judge Leipold has done a great job for our circuit," Chief Judge Jason J. Deal said. "We appreciate his dedication to public service in both the Public Defender's Office and the Juvenile Court for the last ten years. With a growing family, we understand the need to pursue a more lucrative career in the private sector."

Any person interested in serving as the next Juvenile Court judge is asked to submit a letter and resume to the circuit via email to [email protected] no later than July 10.
