Hall County Schools Superintendent Will Schofield is ready to fill an upcoming vacant principal position at a Middle School in the system.
Schofield has announced his intent to recommend Dr. Danny Waxter as the next Principal of World Language Academy Middle School. Schofield’s recommendation will be made at the Monday, May 13 board meeting. Dr. Waxter will fill the role vacated by Dr. Laurie Hitzges, who is leaving to be the principal at McEver Arts Academy.
Currently Waxter works for Jackson County Schools as Director of Student Support Services, after beginning his career in 2005 as a Spanish teacher at Peachtree Ridge High School. He then came to Hall County in 2013 as lead Spanish teacher at Flowery Branch High School. From 2016 until 2020, he served as Assistant Principal for Friendship Elementary School.
In a press release from Superintendent Schofield's office, Waxter says, “I am excited to be a member of the World Language Academy community,. As a former Spanish teacher, working in a dual immersion school is like being a bridge between cultures, languages, and worlds. It's not just about teaching; it's about cultivating understanding, empathy, and unity among our students and communities. I look forward to working with our students, teachers, and community members to continue the great work that has been happening for over 15 years at WLA.”
Waxter holds a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Georgia, along with a Master of Education in Teaching Additional Languages (Spanish) and a Bachelor of Business Administration in International Business, with a minor in Spanish.
