Congressman Mike Collins to honor fallen Jackson Co Deputy during National Police Week

By Lawson Smith Anchor/Reporter

North Georgia Congressman Mike Collins (R- Ga 10) will honor a fallen Jackson County Deputy Tuesday during a prayer vigil and flag laying ceremony hosted by Speaker Mike Johnson in observance of National Police Week.

Deputy Lena Marshall was shot in the line of duty on November 5, 2021, in Hoschton, Georgia, while responding to a domestic disturbance call. She succumbed to her gunshot wounds at a local hospital three days later.

The vigil will take place on the House Steps followed by a flag laying ceremony at the House Triangle in Washington, D.C., directly after votes. The flags will stay on the House Triangle throughout the duration of National Police Week, which ends May 18.

"Our nation's law enforcement officers courageously risk their lives every time they don their uniforms," Collins said in a release. "It is my distinct privilege to lay an American flag in honor of Deputy Marshall, who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to our Georgia communities."
