The family of late Gainesville High School baseball player Jeremy Medina have filed a lawsuit in Hall County Superior Court over his death.

The suit was filed Tuesday by Jeremy's parents, David and Yamira Medina. Jeremy died from injuries sustained when he was hit in the head with a bat at a practice at the high school in November 2023. Medina died less than a month later at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

The lawsuit seeks just over $722,000 from the parties listed, which include Gainesville High School Principal Jamie Green, Athletic Director Adam Lindsay and Head Baseball Coach Cris Carpenter among others. It alleges negligence by Gainesville's staff in the incident.

"At the time, there were no adults present and no employees of the school supervising the practice," the lawsuit said. "As a direct and proximate result of these Defendants' negligent performance of ministerial duties, Jeremy suffered bodily injuries, emotional injuries, pain, suffering and ultimately, death."

The suit also alleged that the practice was illegal under the Georgia High School Association's guidelines due to it occurring before the start of the season in January.

Gainesville City School System Superintendent Jeremy Williams said in a text to AccessWDUN Tuesday evening that the school system was not aware of the lawsuit.

"Once more information is available, our attorneys and insurance company will take the lead," Williams said.

The suit filed Tuesday is requesting a jury trial. Chloe Dallaire is the attorney representing the Medina family in the case. Hall County court records indicate as of Tuesday that Judge Jason Deal is presiding over the case.
