The Gwinnett County Police Department arrested a Lawrenceville man for allegedly attempting to elude police officers while having a small child in his vehicle.
GCPD officers were reportedly performing a detail targeting racing, reckless driving, and DUI at 1 a.m. on June 14 when they noticed a Black BMW traveling on I-85 at a high speed. Officers attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the driver continued to drive away from the officer.
The department’s aviation unit then began tracking the vehicle as it continued to flee, locating it to a residential neighborhood in Duluth where the driver was seen leaving the vehicle with a two-year-old child.
Officers were able to detain the suspect, identifying him as Alessio Vaduva, 21, Lawrenceville.
Vaduva was arrested and booked into the Gwinnett County Jail and charged with felony fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, speeding, unsafe lane change, driving without headlights, defective tires, operating unsafe vehicle, failure to obey traffic control device, child restraint violation, and duty upon striking fixture. The child was released to a family member and was unharmed.
During the fived days of the traffic detail, 485 traffic stops were conducted, resulting in 658 citations issued, including 36 for DUI and 10 for reckless driving, according to a release from the GCPD.
