Gas prices did not soar through the holiday weekend.

The extended weekend for the July 4th holiday did not extend gas prices much further upward from where the numbers stood prior to the week.

AAA of Georgia says that gas prices statewide increased slightly at the pumps compared to a week ago. Georgians are paying an average price of $3.32 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline, subject to change. Monday's average price is just 1 cent more than a week ago, 1 cent more than a month ago, and 8 cents more from the same time last year.

Montrae Waiters of AAA says, "Fuel charges experienced a humble hike, in the wake of the July 4th festivities.  The tropics are brewing, promising a hurricane season that could be one for the records."  With this in mind, Waiters says AAA anticipates a possible surge at the pumps if a tumultuous hurricane season affects the heart of  the Gulf of Mexico's refineries and if crude oil prices rise.

Prices throughout Hall County are averaging at around $3.28 per gallon, as of Monday, with the lowest average price in northeast Georgia appearing in Stephens County, at $3.16 per gallon.  The highest average price is currently found in Lumpkin County, at $3.38 per gallon.

Nationally, the average price for unleaded regular gasoline rose just one penny from one week ago, to $3.50 per gallon.  A link to AAA's price average page can be found, here.
