Hall commissioners move towards approval for White Sulphur Road realignment

By Logan Landers Anchor/Reporter

The Hall County Board of Commissioners moved closer to the final approval of a White Sulphur Road Realignment project at their work session on Monday afternoon.

Commissioners placed the contract on the consent agenda for Thursday's voting session, where it will likely receive final approval.

E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc., which is based out of Snellville, will be handling the project. They beat out six other companies who were vying for the job.

Funding for this project is worth approximately $6,957,052.86 with $2 Million coming from an Economic Development Administration (EDA) reimbursement grant.

The work will start at White Sulphur Road approximately 0.4 miles north of its intersection with Rumsey Road.

"This is a project that'll help us meet the needs of the community and help expand capacity and traffic flow in that area," said Director of Public Works and Utilities Bill Nash.

Some of the work that will be done in this project according to the project contract “includes shifting the roadway alignment to the east of the railroad and running northerly approximately 3,900 ft. with an urban cross-section, drainage collection pipe and open ditches, guard rail and lighting.”

Additional work that will be done “involves modifications to the existing roadways converging at the north end of the project to account for the elimination of the railroad crossing at the Port Entrance.”
