The Habersham County Board of Commissioners approved the FY2025 budget and set the millage rate at Monday’s meeting.
The budget’s highlight is a full rollback of the millage rate, with it being set at 11.771 mills. The overall decrease for the county is 0.845 mills.
“We realize times are hard for many people right now, and we have worked to find ways to offer a full millage rollback,” Habersham County Commission Chairman Ty Akins said.
The general fund budget was set at $39.17 million, with 57% of that funded from property taxes.
This is up slightly from last year’s $37.19 million budget.
The biggest difference in spending is from the tax assessor’s office, increasing 59.4% from $774,748 to $1.2 million.
The hospital debt fund was set at 0.757 mills and the emergency services millage was set at 1.275 mills.
The Habersham County Board of Education voted to keep its millage rate the same, setting it at 10.354 mills, bringing the total county millage to 24.157, down from 25.002 mills last year.
Another highlight includes added positions, including six firefighters, three facilities maintenance technicians, one parks maintenance worker, two information technology positions, and two part-time animal shelter technicians.
