Superior Court Judge Kathlene Gosselin sentenced a Gainesville man to life in prison after he pleaded guilty to child molestation and rape charges on Tuesday.

A press release from Hall County District Attorney Lee Darragh’s office said Mario Alfonso Gonzalez, Jr., 35, was sentenced to life with 25 years to serve in prison with the rest of his life on probation.

Gonzalez, Jr. pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated sodomy, two counts of aggravated child molestation and one count of rape. He was arrested in July of 2021.

The victim was an elementary school-age child, whom Gonzalez, Jr. knew at the time of the molestation.

“Her molestation occurred on almost a daily basis over a number of years, but she didn’t disclose what had happened to her until he was well out of her life at age 15,” according to Darragh’s office.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office investigator Robert Frisbee investigated the case, with Assistant District Attorney Rachel Bennet handling the prosecution.
