Football: Vikings hold off Banks in thriller

By AccessWDUN Staff

OAKWOOD, Ga. — It took an extra day but East Hall and Banks County completed a thriller at West Hall Stadium on Saturday that went down to the final play.

The Vikings stuffed the Leopards on a goal line stand from the 2 on the final play to preserve a 16-14 win in a restart after the second half was postponed due to rain and lightning on Friday in Valhalla.

East Hall (1-0) trailed 14-10 at halftime when the game resumed around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday with the Leopards taking the second half kickoff. But the Vikings defense was able to force a banks County punt on its opening possession.

The Vikings offense went to work with Jamarcus Harrison rambling in for a score from 40-yards to give them a 16-14 after failing to convert on a 2 point try.

It stayed that way until the final drive when Banks County, in its first game with new coach Todd Winter, mounted one last charge. The Leopards, also sporting a new triple-option attack, moved to the East Hall 2 but could not punch it in on the final play.

East Hall will take on Oglethorpe County on Friday looking to move to 2-0 for a second time in three seasons.

Banks County (0-1) is off next week before holding its home opener on Aug. 30 against Franklin County.
