Students, except for those at Apalachee High School, will return to schools in Barrow County Tuesday following the Sept. 4 shooting at AHS.
Barrow County Schools Superintendent Dr. Dallas LeDuff released a video to the community ahead of students’ return.
“We know the days ahead are going to be difficult, and that we have some staff and some students who are not ready to return to school,” LeDuff said. “We also believe as a school system that it is our responsibility to provide a safe space for those who are.”
Each school will have additional security and law enforcement on campus, according to LeDuff. Georgia Emergency Management has also set up a Community Recovery Center at the Barrow Leisure Services Center (175 2nd St.) to offer free resources and mental health services. Those services will be available Monday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“I want you all to understand that we will get through this together,” LeDuff said. “Everyone at the Barrow County School System loves this community dearly, and love will prevail.”
No information regarding the return plan for Apalachee High School has been publicly released.
