By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

A historic, memorable night concludes 2024 in Habersham Countyas their law enforcement leadership rings in New Year's Day in 2025.

Retiring Sheriff Joey Terrell handed his badge to newly elected Sheriff Robin Krockum in a ceremony to ring in the new year for Habersham County. It marks the first time since 2008 that someone besides Terrell will be overseeing deputies and the county's corrections center and jail.  Krockum's wife and youngest daughter were also in attendance to bring Krockum into the post.

Following the brief Midnight ceremony, Sheriff Krockum then took the time to swear in officers for the Habersham County Corrections Center, as well as deputies and other officials serving the county for 2025.

Krockum says with the first 45 minutes under his new position, he was feeling nervous and excited about what the future offers, and that he looks forward to watching the department grow, and believes he will be able to continue to do great things for the department.

Krockum also thanked Terrell for the nearly 30 years of working with him since 1995, having looked to him as not just a mentor, but as a friend.
