Update posted Jan. 6 at 7:00 p.m.:
The Georgia State Patrol said the collision occurred at around 12:20 p.m. when a vehicle driven by David Dale, 75, of Gainesville was traveling south on S. Main Street and crossing a set of railroad tracks.
The vehicle then stopped on the railroad tracks after the railroad stop bars went down, and Dale attempted to back his vehicle up. The car was then struck by a Norfolk Southern train.
According to GSP, Dale said he was trying to get off the tracks, but never saw or heard the train.
Dale received minor injuries but refused medical treatment, and was not transported to a hospital.
He was charged with improper backing.

Authorities say no one was injured when a train hit a car in Cornelia Monday afternoon.
The Cornelia Police Department posted to social media Monday, saying the incident happened at the rail crossing on Main Street.
No details on how the collision happened have been released, but the police department said the Georgia State Patrol and Norfolk Southern Railway are investigating the wreck.
Cornelia police say the Main Street rail crossing will remain closed for several hours for the investigation.
