Drug, burglary investigation leads to arrest and 14 felony charges

A 20-year-old Gainesville man was arrested on multiple felony charges after a drug and burglary investigation.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said that Burnell Gavin McCormick sold illicit drugs on six occasions between July of last year and January of this year.

McCormick allegedly sold the drugs in broad daylight in the parking lots of two businesses on McEver Road.

The drugs reportedly included THC oil, DMT, cocaine, and marijuana. McCormick was armed with a handgun in all but two of the incidents according to authorities.

Investigators continued the drug investigation along with a burglary investigation that involved McCormick. 

The sheriff’s office said that on Jan. 9, McCormick entered a residence on Shawnee Drive and rummaged through rooms before leaving.

Investigators arrested McCormick on Thursday at his residence on Lake Forest Drive.

McCormick has been charged with 14 felonies and one misdemeanor:

  • First-degree burglary - a felony

  • Two counts of selling cocaine - a felony

  • Sale of a schedule I drug - a felony

  • Sale of THC oil - a felony

  • Two counts of selling marijuana - a felony

  • Five counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime - a felony

  • Use of communication facility in committing or facilitating a drug transaction - a felony

  • Possession of THC oil -a felony

  • Theft by receiving - a misdemeanor 

McCormick is currently being held without bond and the case remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
