WATCH: Gainesville Mayor Sam Couvillon talks about running for Congress

By The Martha Zoller Show

Gainesville Mayor and Georgia 9th Congressional District Republican Candidate Sam Couvillon joined WDUN's "The Martha Zoller Show" on Thursday to talk about running for Congress.

"We need a better representative for the ninth district," Couvillon said. "I want somebody who's going to be respected by his peers in Washington. I want somebody who's going to go to work for the people in the ninth district."

When asked about key issues, Couvillon honed in on high costs, secure borders, and hurricane relief.

"I mean, here recently our representative voted against farm aid," Couvillon said. "We had a bad natural disaster, Hurricane Helene, hit our state and our representative voted against hurricane relief."

Couvillon also talked about working to incrementally solve issues, calling for a "common sense" approach using inflation and Gainesville traffic as analogies.

"A lot of times it's little, little gains. They're not big, transformational gains," Couvillon said. "Inflation is not going to, you know, you're not going to bend that curve in two days ... but by having a common sense approach and working with people working in Congress ... you're going to be able to get things done a lot more effectively than being a man on an island."

Couvillon said to learn more about him, citizens in the 9th District can go here.
