A man wanted on warrants in Habersham County was caught by authorities in Hall County Tuesday after a chase that reportedly ended in Lake Lanier.
The Habersham County Sheriff's Office confirmed Wednesday that Nathan Terry Couch, age 42 of Gainesville, was wanted on charges of second-degree criminal damage to property and a probation violation. Couch was spotted by a Hall County Sheriff's deputy Tuesday afternoon on Jesse Jewel Parkway near Crescent Drive.
The deputy reportedly lost sight of Couch on White Sulphur Road, but Couch's vehicle was later found parked on the side of Cleveland Highway near the Longstreet Bridge.
"The suspect ran from his car on foot and into Lake Lanier," a statement from the sheriff's office said.
Couch was eventually caught without incident. He was extradited to Habersham County to face his warrants there. As of Wednesday afternoon, he remained booked at the Habersham County Detention Center in Clarkesville.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation aided the Hall and Habersham counties sheriff's offices in the case.
