ALPHARETTA, Ga. — The defense was dominating on Friday in helping Gainesville hold off Chattahoochee 1-0 in both teams’ Region 7-5A opener.
The Class 5A fifth-ranked Red Elephants (6-0, 1-0 Region 7-5A) allowed just one true shot on goal for the game.
Sophomore Bryan Turcios scored in the 35th minute off an assist from Abraham Vasquez and that turned out to be all that Gainesville would need.
Gainesville is off to its best start since opening the 2019 season 7-0. The Red Elephants will travel to Roswell (3-3, 1-0 Region 7-5A) on Tuesday in the second of three consecutive region road contests.
