An employee of a city in Franklin County was arrested this week after authorities say they got into an altercation with an elected official.
The names of those involved have not been publicly released, but the City of Canon Police Department issued a statement Thursday saying the incident happened that morning.
"A City of Canon employee was involved in a verbal altercation with an elected official," the police department said. "Following the altercation, the employee was arrested for disorderly conduct without incident."
The police department said there were initially reports that a firearm was involved in the altercation, but said investigations so far have not found any evidence of a gun or of shots being fired.
No one was injured in the incident. The Franklin County Sheriff's Office and the Georgia State Patrol also responded to the incident.
The city has not released information as to what caused the altercation.
