Soccer: Key region matchups, ranked showdowns highlight Tuesday action

By Jeff Hart Sports Reporter

Despite just five region matchups on Tuesday, there should still be plenty of fireworks on the pitch for northeast Georgia area teams.

The best game of the day may be at Memorial Stadium, where the Johnson girls travel to Jefferson in a non-region showdown of top 10 teams on Tuesday. The Lady Dragons (5-2) dropped to fourth in last week's Class 3A Scorbord poll after a loss to Class 5A Loganville, while the seventh-ranked Lady Knights (4-1) have won two straight and have allowed just three goals all season. Jefferson has surrendered just four goals on the season.

On the boys' side, Chestatee, ranked fifth in Class 3A, heads to Dawson County in a crucial Region 6-3A matchup for third place. The War Eagles (5-2, 1-1 Region 6-3A) had its three-game win streak snapped last week in a 1-0 loss to GAC. The Tigers (3-4, 2-1 Region 6-3A) are coming off back-to-back 1-goal wins over both Lumpkin County and North Hall in region play.

In Region 7-5A, the seventh-ranked Gainesville boys (6-1, 1-1 Region 7-5A) go for their second consecutive win, taking on Seckinger (0-7, 0-1 Region 7-5A) at City Park Stadium.

The Buford girls (8-0. 2-0 Region 8-6A) and ranked No. 2 in Class 6A, look to stay unbeaten against winless Central Gwinnett (0-8, 0-2 Region 8-6A) at home.
