Gainesville man killed in early morning South Hall crash

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

A Gainesville man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in South Hall County just after midnight Wednesday morning.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office said the wreck happened on Tanners Mill Road near Tanners Mill Circle in the Chestnut Mountain area. The driver, Jason Jeffery Jones, age 51, was in a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe going north on Tanners Mill.

Sheriff's investigators say Jones' car crossed the opposite lane of the road and went into the grass. It then went across three driveways and hit a culvert, causing it to overturn.

The Tahoe landed on its top. Jones, the only person in the vehicle at the time, died from his injuries. He was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Tanners Mill Road was closed for around an hour while crews investigated the scene. Sheriff's Office officials say there is no evidence that Jones was under the influence or driving at excessive speeds.
