Lost in Space

By Martha Zoller Host, Morning Talk

On March 18, two astronauts were returned home after they were saved by a SpaceX, one of Elon Musk's companies. It reminded me of those days in the 60s when we all gathered around the TV to watch the Apollo missions. And in the 80s and 90s when we gather around to watch the space shuttle. We cheered when they came home safely and we cried when we saw tragic loss and disaster, but we were united as a people in cheering and praying for the success of each of those missions.

Butch Wilmore was the lead astronaut that was stuck in space, some might say lost in space, for nine months. When he was asked about what he learned while he was in space, he talked about his belief in Jesus Christ. There are a lot of stories of astronauts growing in their faith when they get up into space. When you can look back at Earth or look forward to the Moon, you've got to know there's more to life than this. There's got to be everlasting life. I'm more sure of that now than I ever have been. Maybe it's a sign of age And the fact I've seen a lot of death in the last few years in my family. I know where they are and I am comforted by it.

We need to use Tuesday and the successful return of these two astronauts as a reset point. It's very unsettling to me that instead of cheering the fact that Elon Musk and DOGE are finding wasted money in contracts, in offices, in software--as well as in many other places around this government--they are attacking the messenger. And the reaction for most people in leadership on the left--some of which I usually have respect for--is to criticize Elon Musk instead of being horrified at the waste fraud and abuse that he is uncovering. I had one friend say to me when I asked her if she had actually seen the interview where Musk explained what his process was and what he found, and where you can find the documentation for what he has found, the Doge.gov website, she said, "I'll never listen to him. I can't stand him." How are you gonna ever learn if you don't listen to people you disagree with?

And I think it's pretty clear from the polling, a majority of people left and right like what he is doing and the direction that the country's going in.

So let's start a new way. Let's start talking to each other instead of arguing with each other. We should all be on the side of saving taxpayers money. And we should all be on the side of having taxes as low as they can be for those taxpayers. I'm looking for a new day.
