Hall County Schools' Deputy Superintendent for Teaching and Learning Kevin Bales announced his retirement, effective May 30, 2025.
A press release from HCSD said Bales shared the news with the Teaching and Learning Department in a brief meeting, followed by an email to all principals in the district regarding his decision:
“It is time, and I am both happy and humbled about my decision,” the email said. “It has been an absolute pleasure to serve with my colleagues. Having been a principal, I hold so much respect for the work that you continue to do each and every day. I want to thank all of you for your trust. You worked with me. Many of you took my counsel and valued my thoughts. Even more of you allowed me to push towards a higher achievement standard with data in hand. Thank you for both your patience and your support. I still have lots of work to do over the next couple of months. Moving forward, I pledge to pray for you often and ask that you keep students and student achievement at the forefront of your work.”
Bales has worked in education for thirty-two years—thirty of which were with the Hall County School District. He has served in a variety of roles, including as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, school improvement specialist, assistant superintendent.
“Kevin Bales cannot be replaced,” Superintendent Will Schofield said. “He has served this community for three decades with loyalty, consistently advocating on behalf of our boys and girls. As my friend, I wish him the best in this new chapter of his life.”
