Banks County Sheriff's Office responds to Facebook video of deputies making ‘inappropriate comments’

A video making the rounds in Banks County allegedly depicting deputies making inappropriate comments about a child is under administrative investigation by the sheriff's office.

The video posted to Facebook on April 6 was reportedly recorded on March 25 at a home on Blacks Creek Church Road.

Deputies can be heard making disparaging comments about a boy. One person allegedly states the child “looks like he's the offspring of the banjo player from Deliverance.”

According to the Banks County Sherrif’s Office, deputies were at the residence for an arrest warrant for a person who lived at the home. During that incident, deputies arrested two additional people with arrest warrants.

During the incident, methamphetamine and syringes were reportedly found in the same room as the child and a suspect.

“On Sunday evening, a social media post surfaced that included video footage of inappropriate comments made by deputies regarding a child. We take these allegations seriously and immediately began a thorough administrative investigation to address the concerns raised by the public.

Upon learning of the complaint, our deputies attempted to contact the individual who posted the video to gather more information at the residence mentioned. However, we were informed that the complainant had left on Sunday night, and the contact information provided has been unreliable. This has made conducting a complete and thorough investigation into the claims challenging,” BCSO officials said on Facebook.

The post went on the state that the parent of the child referred to in the video did not file a complaint against the sheriff’s office.

“As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability, the violations of policy are being disciplined in accordance with established procedures and professional standards,” BSCO said.
