Mary (Reed) Martin

Mrs. Mary (Reed) Martin, age 81, of Oakwood passed away Monday, April 13, 2020 following a long-term illness.

Given the restrictions of the current pandemic, a private viewing for the immediate family was held Friday, April 17, 2020 at Memorial Park South Chapel followed by a 2:00 pm graveside service and interment at Memorial Park South Cemetery.

Mary was born December 9, 1938 as the first of four children of the late Clyde Reed and the late Myrtice (Kennedy) Reed of Chestnut Mountain. Upon her marriage to Mr. Ben Horace Martin, however, she moved a few miles up the road to the small town of Oakwood in Hall County where she and Ben made their home, raised their son and daughter, and led a long, full, and happy life on the small farm that they built together. Life on the farm was filled with the challenges and rewards of hard work, the fulfillment of raising her children, and the boundless joy of welcoming the grandchildren which she absolutely adored.

Mrs. Martin is survived by her daughter, Cindy Martin Sidhom & husband Gerald Sidhom of Hoschton; her son, Ben Horace Martin, Jr., of Madison, AL; and grandchildren Benjamin Horace Martin, III, Mary Cornelia Martin, Garrett George Sidhom, and Lauren Mary Sidhom. She is also survived by her youngest sister and her brother. Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 54 years, Mr. Ben Horace Martin. Mary was laid to rest beside Ben under the shade of the oak tree in the spot that she herself picked for them to share together.
