Arlis Wallace Miller, age 85, of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2020 after battling dementia for many years.
Arlis was born in Lumpkin County, GA on 12/29/1934 and was the 7th child of 9 born to Joseph Nelson Miller and Carrie Sutton Miller. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Windell Miller, Bonnie Toler, Bertharee Miller, Evon Paschal, Herbert Miller, Charles Miller, Edward Miller, Aundie Mason, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He served in the Marines from 2/26/1934 – 2/25/1957. He was an Ammo Technician ranked as a Sargent when was honorably discharged. He went on to serve in the Marine Reserves from 2/26/1957 – 2/25/1961. While serving he received a National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Ribbon, Korean Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He was a long time member of the American Legion, Roy Head Post in Cleveland. Arlis was proud of his military service to his country and enjoyed talking to other veterans about their service. His prized possessions were his Marine’s hats that he wore daily.
Arlis was a master plumber by trade and worked many years for Miller Mechanical. After retiring he moved back to Cleveland was self-employed for several years. He was loved dearly by his nieces and nephews.
There will be no service at this time. Burial will be at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
