Carlton "Eddy" Harris, Jr.

Obituary Date: Wednesday, May 6, 2020

Carlton “Eddy” Harris, Jr. passed away May 5, 2020 after a battle with cancer.  Eddy was born on April 29, 1955 in Shreveport, LA to Carlton and Patricia Harris and grew up in Rose City, Arkansas.  Both parents are deceased.  After serving in the US Marine Corp in Vietnam, Eddy started his family in Destin, FL and moved to Lumpkin County in 1994 to take the position of Lumpkin County Park and Recreation Director.  Eddy served his community in any capacity asked of him until his retirement in 2018. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and John Wayne movies.

Eddy is survived by his wife of 33 years, Dee, and children Allison, Tyler, and John.  Also surviving are sister and brother-in-law Peggy and Bob Bundy, sister Pam Hall, niece Julie Carter, nephew Nickolas Hall and family, great-nephew Trey Pittman, mother-in-Law Mary Gainey and brother-in-Law Phil Gainey.  

Eddy had a passion for youth sports and the difference such programs can make in the lives of young people.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Lumpkin County Government in the name of Eddy Harris for additions to the landscaping at Park & Rec, care of Allison Martin, 99 Courthouse Hill, Dahlonega, GA, 30533. 

Due to Covid19 restrictions no public service is planned at this time.
