James C. Morakis

Obituary Date: Friday, May 22, 2020

James C. Morakis was born in Buffalo, NY to his Greek immigrant parents, Christos and Angela Morakis, on July 27, 1931.  He was the youngest of four, having two brothers, Marko and Nicholas, and one sister, Despina.  His parents and siblings and their spouses, along with his beloved wife of 50 years, Ellen, were waiting to greet him in Heaven early Friday morning of May 22, 2020.

James, known as Papou, Jim, or "young boy" to most, has resided in Cumming, GA for the last 10 years, where for the last 6 he stayed with his daughter and family at 3245 Sydenham Court.  He is survived by his 5 children, Christine Morakis of Hubbard, OH, Evadne Morakis of Fuquay Varina, NC, Christopher Morakis and wife, Jennifer of Poland, OH, Nick Morakis and wife, Karen of WPB, FL, and, Angela Brazier and her husband, Jeff, of Cumming, GA. He also was blessed with 6 grandchildren, Adrianna Kelaher, Alaina and Christopher Jr. Morakis, Jamey, Nicole, and Nicholas Brazier, and one great grandson, Joey born to Adrianna.

James was a hard-working industrial painting contractor, working for his brother, and then himself, until he was retired at the young age of 60.  Everywhere he went, people loved him.  He and his wife, Ellen, were married in 1961, raised their family in Ohio, moved to FL in 1979 where they lived for 30 years, and then moving one last time to their final resting place in GA, where they made many loving and dear friendships and memories together.  He was a member of the Greek Orthodox church in Cumming, GA.

James was widowed in early 2012, and for all the years since then, he and a group of wonderful people would meet at the local coffee shop every morning like clock work. The last year since he wasn't able to drive himself, his granddaughter, Nicole, was his chauffeur, and she has many "Papou euphemisms" to share.  He's been mentioning his late wife more frequently, wishing to join her very soon. Especially since he wasn't able to go visit his friends daily and he's been confined at home since March due to Coronavirus.  He'd been mentioning the desire to "go see Mom" very soon, and "You know what the monkey says when he got hist tail cut off? Won't be long now" to his family almost daily since March.  He is probably saying right now, "I'm doing alright for a young guy" up in Heaven.

Honoring the life of James Morakis!
