Mrs. Doris Elise Wyant, 94, of Buford, Ga., daughter of Henry William “Pop” Schaffner and Claudia Speaks Pickler, passed away Friday morning, July 24, 2020, in Gainesville, Ga.
Doris was born in Birmingham, Ala., on November 28, 1925 and was a member of the Greatest Generation. Doris owned her own Bookkeeping service and after retirement, she enjoyed fellowship at First Baptist Church of Buford, where she sang in the Silvertones Choir and was a member of the Abundant Life Fellowship group. She loved to cook, and her homemade biscuits, cakes, and fried chicken are iconic family recipes. A voracious traveler in her golden years, Doris enjoyed many trips including Canada and England, and crossed the U.S. on journeys with dear friends.
She is survived by her sons, Dr. Daniel Strickland and Donald Strickland, her daughters, Debbie Lyter, Dianne Smith, Step-daughter, Jean Nichols, and their spouses, Karen Strickland, Sandra McCrea, Blaine Lyter, Jeff Smith, and Ronnie Nichols, her grandchildren, Daniel Strickland, Jr., Bevin Strickland, Leslie Nobles, Dina Martin Knight, B.J. England, Breana England Cagle, Douglas Strickland, Tyler Smith, Keener Smith, William Strickland, and Todd Poucher, numerous beloved great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Elfred Poucher and Wilson Wyant
Doris’s family would like to thank her friend and caretaker, Kristy Cantrell, and the staff and residents of Country Heritage Personal Care Home.
A private graveside service will be held for immediate family, with a celebration of life to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Silvertones Choir at First Baptist Church of Buford.
