Millard “Big John” Walters, 93 years young peacefully passed away on Friday, August 7, 2020. He was born in Ellaville, Georgia on December 27, 1926.
He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Shirley Jean.
Big John served in the US Army during World War II and the Korean War. He was an engineering graduate from Georgia Tech and went on to have a long career at Lockheed Aircraft where he worked on the C-130 cargo airplane for 35 years. During this time, he was also a nationally known clogging instructor. He is enshrined in the National Clogging Hall of Fame. John and Shirley volunteered 20 years at The Place of Forsyth County. He has left a legacy of a strong work ethic, a loving family man and a tremendous role model. He will be forever missed.
Big John was a husband, father, grandpa, and Big Papa to a loving family. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Becky and John Powell, son and daughter-in-law, John and Jan Walters, son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Julie Walters, and son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Jewell Walters. Survivors also include 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at McDonald & Son Funeral Home. A Memorial service will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Place of Forsyth County.
