Wanda Elaine Williams Skinner

Obituary Date: Sunday, August 9, 2020

Wanda Elaine Williams Skinner is a name that was well known throughout the community. It was a good name and a good name is desired more than great riches. Her name brought pride to who she was; strong, fierce, loving, kind, hardworking, and somehow, she managed to balance a touch of refreshing confidence and was not afraid to speak her mind. You knew where you stood with her, but you also knew that you were loved.   She was born October 23, 1958 to Harold and Gladys Williams. She was the younger sister to Stan Williams and the older (and bossier) sister to Timmy, Steve and Lisa (Homer) Williams. She attended Forsyth County High school and was a lifelong resident of Forsyth County. It was here that she met her sweetheart and married the man she would devote her life to, David Skinner. They were married June 29, 1974. They built a beautiful life together in the 46 years they were together that included two sons, whom she loved more than life and was very proud of.... Jeremy and Joshua. Two daughters-in-love, Candice, and Mallory that she often thanked for putting up with said sons and the greatest treasure in her heart; THE GRANDS: Presley Arden, Jackson David, Camryn Elizabeth, Riley Elizabeth, Avery Catherine and Grayson Phillip Skinner.

In her 61 years, she was a Pastor's wife to many Baptist churches in the community including Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, Mt. Olive Baptist Church and Chestatee Baptist Church. Any one of the members at any of these churches will tell you she was known for praying and would be the first to pray with you, she would also be the first to shout with you and rejoiced when you rejoiced. No one could touch her cooking skills. She perfected that in her time on earth and all who sat at her table were extremely thankful for that. No one ever left her house hungry. In fact, you left with to-go plates and bags of food for the week. She loved traditions and if she didn't have a tradition, she would make one up. She loved to be around people, her people, laughing and eating and having fun. She and David would find a way to work in a trip every chance they could, whether it was a quick trip to the mountains or a service call that ended up at the beach or the much awaited and anticipated beach vacations with the grands, she made sure it happened and she found some crab legs along the way. Her spirit was adventurous and if she was determined to do something, she did it.

She was the best Nana to the grands. She never missed a ballgame, concert, recital, function that any of the 6 were involved with. She dropped off countless bags of McDonalds, Chick-fil-a, etc to North Forsyth Middle School and Highschool with a simple call or text from any of the grands. She kept the roads hot in “the Nana-mobile" picking up and dropping off whatever they needed or wherever they wanted to go. She spent every dollar and every ounce of energy she could find, just to see them smile.

She spent her last year’s serving her family and her church, Silver City Baptist. Her greatest request in life is that all of those that she loves would know and love Jesus. Cancer did not beat her. She fought hard, like a champion until the end and when the angels came for her, she decided to dance into the gates of Heaven on Sunday night, August 9th at 9:27 pm.  "It was on a Sunday, somebody touched me, it must have been the hand of the Lord"

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. at Silver City Baptist Church in Dawsonville, GA, with Rev. Russell Burt officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m.
