Charles Edward Matthews

Charles Edward Matthews, age 75 of Gainesville, GA passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2020.

Ed was one of two children of the late Charles and Shirrel Matthews of Reidsville, North Carolina.

Survivors include: One and Only daughter – Meredith Franklin and son-in-law, Drew Franklin; grandchildren, Jackson & Arya Franklin; sister, Charlotte Hock and brother-in-law, Donald Hock; niece and nephews, Alex & Andrea Taylor, and Camden & Cooper Taylor.

Ed was an accountant, by profession, but excelled at so many other instrumental roles within his community. Among the many roles he was dedicated to, a few of the most joyous and rewarding ones include being a deacon for his church in North Carolina, president of the booster club, helping build and maintain a county club volleyball program, and being the best single father a daughter could ask for. Several years after retiring, Ed moved from North Carolina to Georgia and happily settled into his favorite role, which was being “Pops” to his 2 grandchildren.

Ed passed away at Oaks of Athens (under Hospice care).

The family will be holding a private service Saturday, September 19th, at 12pm at Concord Baptist Church in Clermont, GA.
