Mrs. Johnnie B. Parker, devoted wife, loving mother and adored grandmother, died following a brief illness on October 2, 2020 at the age of 90.
Johnnie was born on June 29, 1930 to John and Nancy Barlow of Moultrie, Georgia, the fifth of seven sisters. She graduated from Norman Park College. While in Moultrie, she met an Air Force officer from Oregon named Richard Parker. They were married in November 1953 and together they lived in Oregon and Texas before settling in Gainesville, Georgia to raise their children, Lynn, Tammy, Jeff and Bryan. She, Dick, and the children traveled most of the United States.
Johnnie worked as a secretary for the local hospital and various psychiatrists and upon retirement she continued her love of travel through mission trips and fabulous vacations. She loved and was involved in many church activities at Lakewood Baptist Church. Her greatest joy however was Sunday and holiday meals with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Johnnie was preceded in death by her daughter, Tammy Bellamy. She is survived by her husband, Richard Parker; children, Lynn Evans, Jeff (Angela) Parker and Bryan (Sherri) Parker; grandchildren, Jennifer Cook, Jesse Ash, Ashley Croker, Charli Bellamy, Anna Watkins, Rob Parker, RN Bellamy, Sophie Vaughn, Gracie Warren, and Ellie Parker as well as 11 great grandchildren. She’s also survived by sisters, Vera Clark and Winnie Schnell of Moultrie and Viola (Ausley) Gissendanner of Thomasville.
Due to COVID 19, a private graveside service for the family will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Dr. Tom Smiley will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the missions fund at Lakewood Baptist Church 2235 Thompson Bridge Rd. Gainesville, GA 30501
