Edna Singleton Dorsey

Obituary Date: Monday, October 5, 2020

Edna Singleton Dorsey was born on August 26, 1932 to the late Howard Singleton and the late Adell Singleton. She departed this life on October 5, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Dorsey, Sr.; five children, Laurae, Timothy, Larry, Tracy, and Avery; grandchildren, Enda, Tristan, and Carlos; brothers, Willie B and Leroy.

 

Mrs. Edna began her early education in the White County School System.  Later, she graduated from Brenau University with a degree in Early Childhood Education. Upon completion, she taught for many years at the ABC Learning Center. Furthermore, she earned a Theological Degree from Paine College in Augusta, GA.

 

After earning her degree, she served as Assistant Pastor as well as Pastor of Hickory Grove CME Church in Murrayville, GA. She served this post for several years. After leaving Hickory Grove, she founded Community Chapel Non-Denominational Church in Gainesville, GA that was located on Summit Street. Community Chapel became known for its famous 2nd Sunday Singings, Choirs, and Groups that traveled from all over to be a part of the 2nd Sunday Singings. Mom was a singer, songwriter, teacher and preacher. Most of all, she was a child of God.

 

She leaves to cherish her memories to her four children, Harry (Ann) Raven, Anthony Raven, Karen (Todd) Ware, Eleanor (David) Stringer, 25 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren; sisters, Marietta Jackson and Maudell Singleton; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.  

 

Funeral service will be held Sunday October 11, 2020 at 1pm at Dexter T. Sims Mortuary, LLC in The Rev. Charlie, Jr. and Conchita Sims Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Rock Springs Mossy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Cleveland. Viewing will be Saturday October 10, 2020 from 1pm-6pm.The family will receive family and friends from 4pm-6pm. Masks are required.
