Steven E. Groth, 77, of Gainesville passed away Sunday, October 11th with his wife by his side. He was born to the late Clifford Groth and Edith Rebnord Groth on July 19, 1943 in Manhattan, Kansas.
Much of Steve’s childhood was spent moving from place to place around the United States as his father was transferred with his government job. His family finally settled in Chamblee, Georgia where he graduated from Chamblee High School. He attended the University of Georgia and found great enjoyment in spending the fall weekends watching the Bulldogs play football. After serving 4 years in the US Air Force, he went on to work as a salesman for several companies and ran his own company for over 14 years in Chicago, Illinois.
After moving back to Georgia, Steve married a former high school classmate and they have spent the last 23 years on great adventures. Many of those years were spent running a bed and breakfast in Lula, GA where Steve was an active member of Lula UMC and chaired the building committee for their fellowship hall and served on the foodbank committee. He had a big heart and often put the needs of others in front of his own. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him. He will always be remembered for his deep love of his family and friends.
Steve is survived by his wife, Grace Etheridge Groth; daughter Kristina Groth Ruthe and her husband Manfred of Schessel, Germany; brother Dennis D. Groth of Virginia Beach, VA and sister Susan Groth of Atlanta; stepson Christopher Wingo and wife Dawn of Sharpsburg, GA; stepdaughter Lori Mull and husband Chuck of Duluth, GA.
He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Spencer, Rebecca, Colin, and Katie.
Funeral services will be held at Little & Davenport Funeral Home for immediate family members and a Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date for Spring 2021.
