Julia Gertrude Dillard (Gertie)

Obituary Date: Monday, October 19, 2020

Julia Gertrude Dillard (Gertie), passed away Monday, October 19 at her home in Gainesville.  She was surrounded by her family.

Julia was born in Sumter, SC on November 30, 1946.  She lived much of her life in Sumter, SC and then in Hahira, GA.  She recently moved to Gainesville to be closer to family.

Julia loved spending time with family and friends. Loved her time with her pets, Snoopy, Missy, and Maggie. She spent her life working in the sewing factory and her seamstress gifts were use to bless others. She made her kids clothes and baby doll clothes.  She enjoyed fishing.  In her prime time, she loved to dance.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry & Margaret Sims, and her three brothers, Bobby Sims, Harold Sims, and James Sims.  

Survivors include, her husband of 35 years, David Dillard; daughters, Gwen Patterson and Jackie and David Powers of Gainesville, grandchildren, Jarrett Patterson of Gainesville, Cass and Taylor Powers of Columbus, Ohio, Kyle and Lacey Powers and Kristen & Micah Thomas of Gainesville, and she celebrated with much love her six great grandchildren Kylie, Raegan, Carter, Kellar, Lincoln and Vera.   And, several nieces and nephew. 

A private family ceremony will be held at a future date.  Family will receive condolences and cards at Jackie & Gwen, 5993 Wellington Ave, Gainesville GA 30506.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital in Greenville S.C., 950 West Farris Rd, Greenville S.C. 29605; or greenvilleshrinershospital.org.
