Betty Jean Thorpe

Mrs. Betty Jean Thorpe, 94, of Gainesville, 94, departed this life peacefully on Oct 24, 2020. Mrs. Thorpe was born December 22, 1925 and was the daughter of the late Robert and Eleanor (Moody) Strite who resided in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.  Her father was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy at age 17 and served during World War II where he was a Executive Office on the Battleship USS North Carolina.

Other than her parents, Mrs. Thorpe was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Thorpe. She was a resident of the Gardens of Gainesville on Thompson Bridge Road and was a graduate of the University of Georgia with a Degree in Psychology and worked at the Department of Psychology at Georgia Tech until her retirement

She is survived by her son and daughter in law, George Robert Thorpe Sr., and Gloria Thorpe.

It was Mrs. Thorpe’s desire to be cremated and no services be held. She will be interred next to her father and mother in Chambersburg, PA.
