James Terry Slaton, Pendergrass, Ga, age 67 (1/19/53-12/30/20), passed-away on December 30, 2020 as a result of an extended illness.
Terry was the son of the late J. W. and Reba Cape Slaton. He was a life-long resident of Hall and Jackson Counties, a 1971 graduate of North Hall High School, Lanier Technical College. He retired from the ZF Corporation of Gainesville. Terry was Produce Manager at Big Star Grocery Company for 25 years prior to his 25-year career with ZF. Terry was an ordained deacon and member of the First Baptist Church of Oakwood and the Johnnie’s Hill Masonic Lodge.
Terry attended all the classic car shows he could fit into his busy schedule. He was an avid collector of unique items. Terry was a member of the Atlanta Coca-Cola Club and a collector of Coca Cola memorabilia.
He was very capable of any household and automotive repair work and enjoyed spending time at do-it-yourself challenges. His mechanical aptitudes made him well suited for his multiple quality control roles within the ZF organization. In recent years he allowed his hair to grow long in order to donate to the Children with Hair Loss organization; additionally the white beard and hair allowed him to do an excellent Santa imitation. He enjoyed travel having visited all 50 states and numerous countries. One of his favorites was visit to Cuba.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in law, J. B. and Agnes Cochran. Terry is survived by his wife of 48 years, Catherina Cochran Slaton and son James Dustin Slaton of Gainesville. His sister Janet Slaton Fuller (James), Gainesville; sister-in-law Margaret Cochran Clark (Randall), Auburn, AL; Jane Cochran Chosewood (Lance), Atlanta. Nieces and Nephews Tonya Lanthier, Atlanta; Chris Wilkenloh, Atlanta; Kimberly Lanthier Harkey (Bart), Winder; Matthew Clark, Charlotte, NC; Stacey Fuller Young (David), Gainesville; Jana Fuller Lovell (Chad); special friend Nickey Martin and great nieces, great nephews, great great nephews, cousins, extended family, the ZF family, and many other friends.
Visitation will be Saturday January 2, 2021 from 5 -7 pm at Little & Davenport Funeral Home and again Sunday January 3, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. until the funeral hour. Funeral services will be held Sunday January 3, 2021 at 3:00 pm in the chapel at Little & Davenport Funeral Home with Rev. James Kanaday officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorials to Johnnie’s Hill Masonic Lodge #748 2444 Mountain Creek Church Rd., Pendergrass, Ga 30567 or your favorite charity.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic social distancing will need to be observed for everyone's health and safety and mask need to be worn while attending the visitation and the funeral services.
