Betty Jane Holbrook

Obituary Date: Sunday, January 10, 2021

On Sunday, January 10, 2021, Betty Jane Holbrook passed away at the age of 93.  Born in November, 1927 in Atlanta Georgia, Betty, affectionately called Ms. Betty or Grandbetty by those who had the joy of knowing her, lived her life with a gracious and generous spirit. When she wasn’t working in the garden, making cards, voicing a puppet, or painting rocks to brighten someone’s day, you could find her deep in prayer working through her prayer list. She was disciplined with a prayer calendar, earning a reputation for being a prayer warrior. Pastor Chuck Allen of Sugar Hill Church said of her “No human has ever encouraged me or prayed more for me than Ms. Betty Holbrook.” After spending the first 74 years of her life in Doraville, GA, where she raised four daughters and had a career at Avon (retiring in 1988), she moved to Sugar Hill, GA where she blessed a new community with her laughter, generous spirit, and loyal friendship. Wherever she went, she loved to play games (Bingo and Dominoes were favorites), tell jokes, and dance. As a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Betty savored family gatherings with everyone around the kitchen table drinking coffee and telling stories.  She is preceded in death by husband Howard Holbrook and daughters Margret Ann Jett and Mary Jane Fuller. And she is survived by her sister Doris Datry of Hochston, GA; her daughters Debbie Tanksley of Sugar Hill, GA, and Suellen Carpenter of Stone Mountain, GA; son-in-laws Charlie Tanksley of Sugar Hill, GA, Rick Carpenter of Stone Mountain, GA, and Brian Fuller of Flowery Branch, GA; sister-in-law Shirley Jett of Seminone, FL; nieces Cynthia Neese Bailes, Mandy Langpap, and Dean McCullers; and 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

At Betty’s request, there will be no funeral at this time. Instead of sending flowers, Betty requested that donations be made to the Backpack Food Program at Sugar Hill Church.
