Mr. Hugh Curtis Elrod, age 91, of Helen, passed away Monday, January 11, 2021.
Mr. Elrod was born on September 24, 1929 in Robertstown to the late William “Bill” and Antoinette “Nettie” Fain Elrod. In addition to parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Margie Dills Elrod.
Mr. Elrod retired as a DNR Ranger with the State of Georgia with over 25 years experience. He also was a former Chief of Police for the Cleveland Police Department, Deputy for the White County Sheriff’s Department and was head of security at Unicoi Springs for numerous years. Mr. Elrod was a member and Deacon Emeritus of Center Baptist Church. In his spare time, he loved car shows, hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Robert Andrews, Ball Ground; grandchildren, Matt and DeAnna Roberts; great-grandchildren, Bailey and Emily Roberts; sister-in-law, Barbara Cantrell; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Annetta Nations, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be held. The Rev. Hoyt Winkler will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 2-5 P.M. Saturday, January 16, 2021 and from 2-5 P.M. Sunday, January 17, 2021 at the funeral home. Matt Roberts, Mike Roberts, Mark Turner, Brian Cantrell, Brody Nicholson, and Kenneth Moss will serve as pallbearers.
