Viola M. Sheffield

Mrs. Viola M. Sheffield, age 88, of Dahlonega passed away Friday, January 22, 2021.

Viola was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. She was born on January 9, 1933 to the late Major and Floye Rider Moss. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Clinton Sheffield, son Terry Sheffield, sisters Edna Odom, Edith Mincey, Bonnie Lou Edwards, Cleo Moss, and Adell Bruce. Viola was a loving wife and mother. With her hands she loved quilting and had provided each of her grandchildren with a hand stitched quilt made with love and care. Viola loved bird watching on her porch. In her younger days she loved gardening and canning her vegetables. 

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law Larry and Judy Sheffield, and Jerry and Pam Sheffield; sisters Pauline Rider, Leona Rider, Josie Barrett (Ervin), and Marvene Grizzle; brother Leon Moss (Doris), all of Dahlonega; those who called her “Granny” Amanda and Chase Warren, Jennifer and Will Wade, Rebecca and John Lee, Lacee Sheffield, Derek and Kate Sheffield; great-grandchildren Ryan and Melinda Sheffield, Casey Warren, Madelyn Lee, Ella Grace Lee, Jenna Wade, Walker Wade, and Atlee Sheffield; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 PM Sunday, January 24, 2021 in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The Rev. Steve Barrett will officiate. Interment will follow in Hightower Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to the hour of the service Sunday at the funeral home.
