Robert Thurmond

Robert Thurmond, 77, of Dawsonville passed away Saturday January 23, 2021 at his residence.

Born September 8, 1943 to the late Leland and Christine Thurmond, he was a lifelong resident of Dawson County.  Robert worked as a heavy equipment operator doing commercial construction.  He was a U. S. Navy veteran and enjoyed antique cars.  A member of Mill Creek Baptist Church, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Faye Wilson Thurmond; son, James Robert Thurmond; and a brother, Terry Thurmond.

Surviving are his son, William Thurmond, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Dalton Thurmond, J. R. Bruce; sisters, Brenda Dean, Dawsonville, Melissa O’Brien, Dawsonville; brother, Horace Thurmond, Dawsonville; sister in law, Sybil Thurmond, Dawsonville; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday January 27, 2021 at 2 o’clock at Mill Creek Baptist Church.  Rev. Rodney Pilcher and Rev. Danny Ray Martin will officiate.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 until 8 at the funeral home.
