James (“Jim”) Edgar Carr

Obituary Date: Monday, March 8, 2021

James (“Jim”) Edgar Carr, 75, of Dahlonega, Georgia passed away peacefully on Monday, March 8, 2021 after fighting lung cancer for six years.

Jim was born on November 16, 1945 to A. Earl Carr and Josephine Mollenbeck of St. Louis, Missouri.  After graduating from Bayless High School in 1963, he attended Culver Stockton College in Canton, Missouri to play basketball and to study business. Jim was also a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity at Culver Stockton. Jim graduated with a business degree in 1967.

After his college graduation, Jim landed his first job in sales at Hallmark Greeting Card Company, in Little Rock, Arkansas.  It was during this time Jim courted Linda Sue Shrader whom he previously met at Culver Stockton College. After only a few dates, they knew they belonged together and were married in September of 1969.

After marrying, Jim and Linda lived for eight years in Little Rock.  In January, 1977 Jim was transferred with Hallmark Cards, and they relocated to Roswell, Georgia. Together they had four children; Jennifer Elise, Amy Elizabeth, James Blake and Susan Christine. Jim and Linda enjoyed raising their children in Roswell and developed many relationships with neighbors and friends. The Carrs were long-time members of Northbrook United Methodist Church in Roswell, Georgia. Jim loved watching various sports on television and he was an active member of his neighborhood’s tennis team.

Jim proceeded to work for Hallmark Cards for 22 years. In 1990, Jim decided to explore a career as an independent Hallmark store owner. In 1990, he opened up his first of several stores in Griffin, Georgia. His business grew with additional stores in Buford, Georgia, Clemson, South Carolina and Anderson, South Carolina. A career as an independent business owner was rewarding with just the right edge of excitement.  Most of all, Jim enjoyed working and interacting with his customers coming from all walks of life.  It’s the people and their stories that interested Jim the most. Whether it be out to dinner or waiting in line at the grocery store, Jim connected with people. He was interested and he was engaged. Jim never met a stranger.

In 2007, Jim and Linda relocated to Dahlonega, Georgia to enjoy their retirement in a golf community in the beautiful north Georgia mountains. They joined the Dahlonega United Methodist Church and enjoyed the fellowship and friendships they developed. They liked spending time with their children and grandchildren on a regular basis. Jim’s passion for the game of golf continued to grow and he relished both the competition and camaraderie.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda Sue Shrader of Quincy, Illinois.  Also is survived by his two brothers, Robert Carr and Donald Carr, of St. Louis, Missouri. He leaves four children and their families, Nathan and Jennifer Briesemeister, Derik and Amy Taylor, Blake and Candice Carr and Jeff and Susan Dunn. Jim also leaves behind 13 grandchildren. Matthew, Will and Kate Briesemeister; Davis, Abby and Blake Taylor; Beau, Bryson and Brinley Carr; Caroline, Katherine, Claire and Kyle Dunn. Jim was a hardworking family man. His legacy and love will be passed down for many generations to come. For this, we are thankful.

A memorial service for Jim will be held at the Dahlonega United Methodist Church in Dahlonega, Georgia on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at noon.
