Opal Gibson Barron

Mrs. Opal Gibson Crawford Barron, age 78, of Dahlonega passed away Friday, March 12, 2021.

Opal was born in Lumpkin County on June 12, 1942 to the late Frank Winslow and Lila Mae Odom Gibson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Robert Dean Crawford, brothers Jerry Gibson, Wayne Gibson, and Marvin Gibson, and sister Joyce Crane.

Opal was a proud Lumpkin County High School Graduate. She then went to cosmetology school at Lanier Technical College. Opal had a long career in cosmetology and she made numerous friends whom she cherished over the years. She was a very talented singer and piano player. When Opal sat at the piano to sing everyone most definitely received a blessing. Only God in Heaven knows how many families she has ministered to over the years at Mill Creek Baptist Church where she was a member. Opal has now joined the “big choir’ in Heaven and she will be greatly missed by friends and family.

Missing her most will be her husband Golden Barron; son and daughter-in-law Ricky and Wilma Crawford; daughter Sharon Crawford; grandsons, who lovingly called her “O”, Zack Blair (Briana), and Neil Roberts (Jamie); great-grandchildren Bryce, Braydon, and Rebecca; sisters and brothers-in-law Brenda and Charles Ralston, Bonaire, and Debbie and Don Carder, Gainesville; brother and sister-in-law Morris and Judy Gibson, Maggie Valley, NC; sisters-in law Dolly Merritt, Georgia Ann Merritt, and Quida Barron Mize; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.   

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Monday, March 15, 2021 at Mill Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Randy Perry, the Rev. Jack Pilcher, the Rev. Rodney Pilcher, and the Rev. Tim Pruitt will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with the Rev. Jason Crane officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
