Larry Lee Holcomb

Obituary Date: Tuesday, April 6, 2021

Larry Lee Holcomb (83), beloved husband, Dad, Papa and friend passed peacefully at his home April 6, 2021. He was married to the love of his life, Martha for 61 years. Martha and Larry embodied a beautiful and enduring love. When Martha would see Larry her entire countenance would become radiant. They were a formidable force together - in parenting, in living, in friendships, in business, and in life.

Larry’s ability to love was ceaseless. He absolutely adored his family - attending sporting events, vacations and holidays for as long as he was able. Humor, candor and warmth were trademarks that he and Martha shared, hosting many celebrations in their home. His love was uncomplicated and unconditional and extended to his other ‘families’ including his Lyman Hall classmates, Lakewood Baptist Church, his Do More for Christ Sunday School Class as well as his work and life community.

He began his career at an early age picking up and delivering laundry in his childhood community of Chicopee Village. He extended his work experience and developed an appreciation for cars while detailing vehicles for others. Larry loved making deals and trading cars and property. He was admired for his integrity and honesty with all transactions. His natural sales ability ultimately led to him working for Colonial Mobile Homes in Greenwood, SC and Atlanta, GA. He was known to say “I can’t sleep at night knowing someone wants to buy something I have”.  He just loved to sell.  This drive led to his success.

He partnered in establishing Esquire Mobile Homes in Gainesville where he mentored several salesmen over the 15 years, providing sales training as well as life teachings. Larry was generous with words of wisdom for any who asked. His ability to listen, assess and coach to any situation was a God given talent. He was direct in his exchanges and simplistic in the kindness he delivered with his words. Larry was never judgmental or unforgiving, seeing only the best in those around him.

Over the years, developing commercial real estate had become a hobby which he converted into a new career, establishing Holcomb Properties. He continued to counsel friends, family and business associates. His humility and enthusiasm were evident in his family and work life. Larry’s presence immediately lifted the energy of the space he occupied.

He loved vintage cars, moon pies and 8oz Coca-Cola in a glass bottle. He loved the beach, and his screened porches to watch various wildlife and the change of seasons. And, quite simply he loved life. Honor him by loving generously, forgiving boldly and listening intently in the days ahead.

Larry is predeceased by his parents Robert Lee and Zelma Pepper Holcomb, his siblings, Lottie Bell Hudgins, Robert E. Holcomb, Ralph L. Holcomb, Doris Cook, and Joe D. Holcomb and his daughter in law, Niki Holcomb. He is survived by his wife Martha Ann Holcomb, his daughters Donna (Joseph) Hickey, Connie Ambrose and his son, Bill Holcomb. His grandchildren, Brady and Camille Holcomb, Brycen Ambrose; sister, Roberta Irvin; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

A private family graveside service will be held Saturday April 10, 2021 at the Lakeside Mausoleum in the Memorial Park Cemetery.  A celebration of life service will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Lakewood Baptist Church for family and friends.  Dr. Tom Smiley and Rev. Don Ormsbee will officiate.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, those attending the church service will need to practice social distancing and mask are recommended.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Lakewood Baptist Church, 2235 Thompson Bridge Road, Gainesville, Georgia  30501.
