Obituary Date: Saturday, July 3, 2021

Mr. Douglas "Doug" Lloyd Garrett, age 66, of Dahlonega passed away Saturday, July 3, 2021 following a brief illness. He was born in Dahlonega on April 20, 1955 to the late Ella Berry and the late Lloyd Garrett. He was a lifelong resident of Dahlonega and was the loving husband of his wife of 47 years, Patricia "Pat" Holloway Garrett.

After working in construction where he did drywall, Doug began  employment at Torrington and eventually went to work for North Georgia College and State University. He loved nature and enjoyed going on his daily walks with Tucker, his beloved Boxer. Although he was happy walking anywhere in the mountains, the Appalachian Trail was by far his favorite trek. He was a loving family man who enjoyed fishing on the river with his kids and grandkids. Doug was also a lover of music and an avid collector of Bluegrass, Rock, and Country vinyl records. Additionally he was a huge sports fan and collected Baseball cards. His favorite teams were the Atlanta Braves and the Atlanta Falcons.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Doyle Butler.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Pat Garrett of Dahlonega; children, Nathan (Wendy) Garrett of Valdosta, Jennifer (Jay) Kaji of Huntsville, AL, Melissa Garrett (Scott Cantrell) of Dahlonega, and Mitchell (Alisha) Garrett of Dahlonega; siblings, Shirley (LC) Truelove, Kenneth (Autumn) Garrett, and Donald (Tammy) Garrett; and grandchildren, Parker Jones, Aiden Kaji, Kiran Kaji, Emma Grizzle, Lilian Garrett, and Madalyn Garrett. Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends also survive.

The family will receive friends during the visiting hours of 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. Remarks will be made by Rev. Kris Butler to conclude the visitation. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the family.
